A practical look at the updated vehicle circulation fee guide
The AADE has released a fresh and easy to follow guide that clears up some of the most common questions about vehicle circulation fees in Greece. Drivers now have a clearer picture of what they owe, when they owe it, and what happens if they fall behind. The deadline for timely payment for 2026 is 31 12 2025, and unpaid fees can bring penalties that rise all the way to 100 percent.

Key clarifications for owners and buyers
The guide outlines several real life scenarios that vehicle owners often face.
In a vehicle transfer, the seller is responsible for the fees of the transfer year even if the transfer documents were filed late in the previous year.
For vehicles with co ownership, only one owner must pay the fee but all owners remain fully liable until payment is made.
If a license plate number changes, any earlier payment remains valid since the system links the old and new numbers automatically.
Starting from 01 04 each year, owners may pay proportional fees for specific months. If the vehicle is not placed in immobilization after the selected period, AADE will automatically impose immobilization.
The penalty scale
From 2025 onward, penalties for late payment follow a three step scheme.
25 percent penalty for payment within January.
50 percent penalty for payment within February.
100 percent penalty from March onward for non payment or partial payment.
When no fee is owed
If a vehicle has been placed in immobilization before the start of the relevant year, no circulation fee is required.

The guide also sheds light on issues that can confuse vehicle owners, especially when using the online system.

The message incomplete data for fee calculation usually appears when required vehicle data such as cc, CO2 emissions, weight or seating are missing. Owners must visit their regional transport office to update the registration.
If the system says the tax ID does not match the owner, the tax ID may have been entered incorrectly or differs from the one on the registration. In some cases the details kept by AADE or the transport authority may need correction.
Newly registered vehicles require fee payment by the next working day after the issue of the registration document.
Proportional fees and extending circulation time
Owners with immobilized vehicles can activate circulation for a limited time by paying proportional fees from 01 04 each year through the myAADE application. They select the number of months and pay accordingly. Any incomplete month counts as a full month.
If the chosen period ends and the owner wants to continue using the vehicle, the remaining yearly amount must be paid. For example, if someone paid for 5 months and wishes to extend usage, they must pay the remaining 7 months.
If the owner forgets to immobilize the vehicle again after the proportional fee period ends, the vehicle is automatically immobilized by AADE from 11 04 2025 onward.
