Greek investigators foil suspected murder plot after finding heavy weapons in stolen car
In the quiet streets of Kalyvia, a routine police inquiry into local drug activity unexpectedly led officers straight into the heart of a possible murder plot. As the Greek police combed the area, their attention fell upon a Ford Fiesta that seemed out of place. A quick check confirmed their suspicions. The vehicle had been stolen.
What lay inside the car stunned even seasoned investigators. Hidden within the seats and compartments were three Kalashnikov rifles, pistols fitted with suppressors, fuel canisters, gloves and helmets. For the officers, the meaning was chillingly clear. Someone had been preparing for a deadly operation and the discovery may have prevented a killing.

Weapons and equipment seized by police
As investigators unraveled the threads of the case, they traced the stolen vehicle back to a man from Crete. Officers quickly identified him as the individual who had taken the Ford Fiesta. His name was already familiar to authorities. He had a long history of run ins with the law and police sources stated he had been planning a murder.
The deeper they looked, the darker the past became. In 2006, while still a minor, the suspect had been imprisoned for homicide. But he escaped detention and even then he had been connected to Kalashnikov rifles and other weapons.

Investigators reviewing the case
Today, with his arrest once again making headlines, police believe they may have intercepted him at the very moment he was ready to strike.
