The Panhellenic Federation of Professional Taxi Owners, Drivers and Market Vendors (POEΙΑΤΑ) announced a nationwide 48‑hour warning strike for Tuesday, December 2 and Wednesday, December 3.
According to the federation’s board statement, taxi owners say the sector has "reached its limits" after all avenues of dialogue with the responsible ministries—especially the Ministry of Transport—were exhausted without solutions to problems affecting daily operation and members’ livelihoods. The federation added that long-standing core demands on sustainability and everyday operation have gone unresolved despite a number of bills having passed, with authorities responding only with requests for more time and patience.
At its board meeting on Monday, November 24, the federation unanimously decided to call the 48‑hour nationwide strike and to stage actions across the country. The federation also announced steps to convene a Sector Council to decide further actions and sustained mobilizations.
The federation’s listed demands include: - Extending the deadline for mandatory vehicle electrification until 2035. - Addressing unfair competition from multinational ride‑hailing applications. - Immediate measures to stop the poaching of fares by private hire vehicles (EIX), including raising the time‑based charge and the minimum fare nationwide. - Renegotiation of rules to allow laden taxis access to dedicated lanes. - Implementation of all outstanding items in the relevant pending bill. - A tariff/fare adjustment. - Fair tax treatment for taxi owners.
POEΙΑΤΑ said it expects a meeting with the ministry in which the federation presidium and party leaders will participate. The statement warned that if no answers are provided, the sector will unanimously and forcefully decide on further steps.
