Heavy November rains — over 1,000 mm in Tzoumerka; totals among the highest in recent years

Severe rainfall in November 2025 caused problems in the Tzoumerka area. November was characterized by exceptionally high precipitation, especially across Western Greece and Epirus, according to the extended network of automatic meteorological stations operated by meteo.gr / the National Observatory of Athens (NOA).

Extremely large monthly totals were recorded in Epirus, particularly in the mountainous Tzoumerka zone, where measured rainfall exceeded 1,000 millimeters in one month. The spatial-distribution map of total monthly precipitation for Greece (November 2025) produced by meteo.gr / NOA shows: - 4 stations recorded monthly totals above 800 mm, - 13 stations above 600 mm, - 33 stations above 400 mm, - 283 stations recorded amounts greater than 100 mm (about 51% of all active stations).

The largest monthly total was measured at Kataraktis (Arta), with 1,055 mm; this figure may be slightly understated due to brief data-transmission interruptions. Monthly rainfall values at Kataraktis and at Lepiana (Arta) rank among the ten largest monthly totals recorded since the meteo.gr / NOA automatic-station network began operating (meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens).

According to meteo.gr / NOA, the ten largest monthly rainfall totals in the network’s history occur mainly in three periods with intense weather systems: February 2019 (storms “Chioni” and “Oceanis”), September 2023 (storms “Daniel” and “Ilias”), and November 2025 (storm “Adel”) (meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens).
