Protests enter third consecutive day
Farmers and livestock breeders in Heraklion, Crete, continued their mobilization for a third consecutive 24-hour period. Demonstrators are positioned on the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK) at the Karteros junction, maintaining their presence on the major highway.
Intermittent road closures and timetable
According to the organizers’ announced schedule, the protesters reopened the road at midnight. The highway is set to be closed again from 11:30 until 13:30, and will then be closed once more from 14:30 until midnight. The actions therefore follow an intermittent blockade pattern rather than a continuous full-day shutdown.
Possibility of expanded actions in Heraklion
Protesters have not ruled out taking their demonstrations to other locations in Heraklion. Officials among the group said they may stage additional protests at other points around the city, including potentially in the city center.
Main grievances and demands
The farmers and livestock breeders say they are protesting because they have not received the advance payment of the single farm aid (prepayment of the unified subsidy). They also cite high production costs and low market prices for their products as driving factors behind the mobilization.
