Nikolas Farantouris offers assurances to SYRIZA leadership after public scrutiny over his comments on Maria Karystianou.

SYRIZA Leadership Seeks Clarifications From Farantouris

SYRIZA MEP Nikolas Farantouris has assured party leader Sokratis Famellos that he remains aligned with the party, according to information from within the political organization.

Famellos contacted Farantouris on Tuesday 6 1 to seek clarity regarding his position on Maria Karystianou and his recent reference to a shared understanding.

Party Secretariat member Thanasis Theocharopoulos had earlier announced that such communication would take place, noting during an appearance on Action24 that the leadership would request specific clarifications.

Criticism From Within the Party

SYRIZA MP Pavlos Polakis publicly criticized Farantouris through a social media post, urging him to clearly state his stance or step down from his role as MEP.

Farantouris Comments on Karystianou

During an interview with ERT, Farantouris spoke positively about Karystianou and acknowledged that discussions between them are ongoing.

He stated that Karystianou represents a civic movement that mobilized millions of people across the country with a unified call for justice and democracy.

Farantouris added that the two recently co organized a significant institutional event featuring a panel of distinguished constitutional experts.

Positions on Justice Transparency and His Political Future

He noted that a sense of convergence exists on issues related to justice and transparency, while declining to comment on whether he might eventually leave SYRIZA to join a potential new political formation proposed by Karystianou.

Farantouris stressed that he cannot comment on parties that do not yet exist, emphasizing that a civic movement based on constructive ideas would always be welcome.

He concluded by stating that he continues his work as an MEP without interruption and faces a demanding workload in the period ahead.
