A tragic start to the new year emerged as Victoria Kafka Jones, daughter of actor Tommy Lee Jones, was found dead at age 34 inside a luxury hotel room in San Francisco.
San Francisco Fire Department crews arrived at the Fairmont San Francisco after receiving a medical emergency call at 2:52 a.m., where they attempted CPR before pronouncing her dead at the scene.
Police officers, paramedics, and the Medical Examiner also responded to the hotel, though the cause of death has not yet been determined.
A source speaking to the Daily Mail noted that hotel staff first alerted authorities after discovering an unconscious woman in her mid 30s.
TMZ initially broke the story and reported that the area was quickly turned over to police once her death was confirmed.
The actor shared Victoria and her brother Austin, age 42, with his former wife Kimberly, to whom he was married from 1981 to 1996.
A spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department stated that officers were dispatched around 3:14 a.m. on January 1 to investigate reports of a deceased individual at a hotel on the 900 block of Mason Street.
Responders at the location confirmed the death of an adult woman shortly after their arrival.
Born on September 3 1991, Victoria made her screen debut as a child with a small appearance in Men in Black II, a film directed by her father.
Minor acting roles followed, including an episode of One Tree Hill in 2005 and a part in the western The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada that same year.
Although she later stepped away from acting, she still joined her father at selected public events over the years.
A proud moment came in 2017 when she accompanied him to the premiere of Just Getting Started at ArcLight Hollywood.
Another appearance took place that October at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo International Film Festival, where her father served as president of the international competition jury.
Warm praise for Victoria emerged from Tommy Lee Jones during the promotional tour for The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, with the actor calling her a talented performer fluent in Spanish.
He had previously explained that her nanny Leticia spoke Spanish to her from infancy, helping her master the language.
A lighthearted story he shared involved Victoria at age 14, when she struggled with early call times while working on a film set.
The actor recalled encouraging her to wake up at 5 a.m. for her role, and after refusing to get out of bed, she jokingly found herself fired by her father.
Members of the production team later retrieved her, woke her up, and managed to bring her to the set just in time.
