Turkish actor Can Yaman and singer Selen Gorguzel were detained in extensive police raids tied to a narcotics investigation in Istanbul.

High profile arrests in Istanbul narcotics investigation

Turkish actor Can Yaman was detained in Istanbul during sweeping police raids targeting popular entertainment venues and the Bebek Hotel. Authorities launched the operations under orders from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office as part of a major narcotics investigation. Officers from both the police and the gendarmerie collaborated to collect evidence and track down suspects.

Reports in Turkey indicated that Yaman is expected to be transported to the Forensic Medicine Institute for blood testing. His international profile rose with Netflix’s Sandokan, while audiences in Greece came to know him from Fterotos Theos. Another well known figure, Turkish singer Selen Gorguzel, was also taken into custody as part of the same probe.

Allegations referenced by Turkish media include possession of drugs for personal use, facilitating drug consumption and encouraging or enabling prostitution. A statement issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office described the coordinated operations carried out across multiple locations. Investigators searched 6 venues with police units and 1 additional site with the gendarmerie.

During the raids, authorities seized cocaine, marijuana, pills, unidentified liquid residues, a precision scale and ammunition. The announcement emphasized that these items were believed to be connected to narcotics activity. In total, 7 suspects were detained in relation to the investigation.
