Young skier killed as avalanches strike multiple Alpine regions
A tragic accident in the Austrian Alps claimed the life of a 13 year old Czech boy after an avalanche swept him away at the Sportgastein ski resort.
Authorities reported that the boy had ventured off piste with another child when the snow mass broke loose and engulfed him.
Rescue officials said that a separate avalanche in Untertauern carried away a skier and her partner, with the man managing to dig himself out before pulling the injured woman to safety.
Emergency teams also responded to several avalanches on Sunday afternoon in the Wurbberg area near Tyrol, where a 58 year old skier died and multiple people sustained injuries.
Reports from the French Alps indicated that 6 skiers lost their lives over the weekend following a series of deadly avalanches.
