A quiet area just outside Paramaribo was struck by tragedy when Suriname National Police reported a mass stabbing that left at least 9 people dead.
Authorities explained that the violence unfolded overnight from Saturday into Sunday in the days following Christmas.
Investigators said the suspect, a 42 year old man, first targeted his four children who were between 5 and 15 years old.
Reports added that the same man then moved on to attack five neighbors ranging in age from 7 to 80.
Officials noted that the scale of the violence has deeply unsettled the surrounding community.
