Persistent Cold Grips the Country
The wintry weather continues across Greece with harsh cold conditions and gale force winds reaching 8 Beaufort. Snow or sleet is expected in lowland areas of Pella Pieria and Imathia with possible snowfall in southern Chalkidiki. Regions above 200 meters may see brief weakened snow showers.
Regional Snow and Rain Patterns
According to forecaster Giannis Kallianos western Macedonia is set to experience local snowfall above 550 meters. Thessaly central and eastern mainland Evia the Sporades and eastern northeastern Peloponnese will see local rains in low and coastal areas while higher elevations above 300 to 500 meters may witness temporary snowfall.
Clearer Skies in Western Greece
Western regions and many Aegean islands will enjoy brighter intervals with more sunshine. Temperatures will fall to minus 6 in northern mainland areas and range from 8 to 10 in eastern mainland 11 to 12 in western regions and 7 to 13 in Aegean islands.
Strong Winds Across the Country
Northern winds will remain strong nationwide reaching 8 to 9 Beaufort in the Aegean and 7 to 8 Beaufort in Ionian areas.
Weather in Attica and Thessaloniki
Attica will experience local showers mainly in the eastern and northern parts with brief snowfall above 500 meters. Temperatures will range from 3 to 8 degrees Celsius with northeast winds at 6 to 7 Beaufort.
Mild Cloudiness in Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki will see scattered clouds with temperatures from 0 early in the morning to 6 later in the day. Light snowfall may occur above 200 meters in southeastern Chalkidiki including the second peninsula and Mount Athos with eastern winds from 3 to 5 and up to 6 Beaufort offshore.
Unstable Weather Continues on Tuesday
Tuesday will bring increased cloudiness with local rain and sleet in northern parts of central Macedonia Thessaly the Sporades northern Aegean islands Evia eastern mainland Peloponnese the Ionian Cyclades and Crete. By nighttime weather conditions will spread to most mainland regions except eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Snow will fall in mountainous and semimountainous areas including the highlands of Evia and Crete with intensification in the west.
Temperatures and Winds on Tuesday
Elsewhere clouds will gradually thicken. Winds will blow from the northeast at 6 to 8 Beaufort in the west reaching 9 in the southwest and 5 to 6 in the east with the Aegean seeing up to 7 Beaufort. Temperatures will remain stable reaching 7 to 8 in northern regions 10 to 12 in central and southern mainland and 11 to 13 in island and western regions while Crete the Cyclades and Dodecanese may reach 15 to 16 degrees. Frost will appear in northern mainland areas during morning and evening hours.
Weather Deterioration Expected on Wednesday
On Wednesday conditions will worsen with increased cloudiness and local rainfall nationwide. Scattered storms will occur in the Ionian especially along coastal and marine areas of western central and southern mainland extending later to the Cyclades Crete eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese. Snowfall will hit mountainous and semimountainous mainland regions more intensely in central and northern areas.
Wind Outlook for Wednesday
Winds in western regions will blow from the southeast at 6 to 8 Beaufort reaching 9 in the Ionian during morning hours before gradually weakening. Eastern regions will experience southeast winds of 6 to 8 Beaufort with the Aegean possibly reaching 9 Beaufort by the afternoon.
