Georgiadis Addresses Political Climate on Action24
The Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis appeared on Action 24 on Friday evening, offering commentary on key political developments ranging from internal discussions within New Democracy to farmer protests and the situation in public hospitals.
Clarifying His Relationship With Nikos Dendias
He dismissed speculation of tension with the Minister of National Defence, stating firmly I have no conflict with Nikos Dendias and emphasizing that his political tone aims for unity rather than division.
Confidence in Government Stability
Georgiadis insisted that the government remains solid and expressed certainty that Kyriakos Mitsotakis will win the next elections. He added that Greece has achieved what he called the absolute comeback over the past 7 years in both its economy and international standing.
On Greek Turkish Relations
Regarding foreign affairs, he acknowledged that foreign policy is the most successful area of the government but admitted that communication mistakes have occurred. He noted that communicatively we have failed in foreign policy even though on the main issues it has performed very well. He also commented that some people are upset because we are not insulting the Turks but that this is not the role of politics. On defence matters he pointed out that the goal is to make Greece strong enough that Ankara cannot threaten it.
Maria Karystianou and Her Political Entry
Speaking about Maria Karystianou and her potential entry into politics, he said she is welcome but hinted at issues related to the Tempi tragedy. He argued that one year ago discussions centered on solvents and smuggling, and now all that has been forgotten implying that earlier accusations were unfounded.
Impact of Karystianou on the Political Landscape
Georgiadis said that Karystianou poses no threat to New Democracy but to opposition parties that invested politically in the tragedy. He stated If she enters politics she will become dangerous for the parties that tried to bring down Mitsotakis through the Tempi case. He described the only cover up as what she herself wrote about the handling of the association finances.
Farmers Protests and Criticism of Roadblocks
Addressing farmer demonstrations he expressed optimism that Mondays meeting at the Maximos Mansion will lead to a solution. However he criticized the roadblocks and asked Who gave them the right to demand a medical note in order to allow drivers to pass.
Comments on Kostas Anestidis
On unionist Kostas Anestidis he clarified that he does not believe there will be grounds for a lawsuit. He added that Anestidis is not a member of New Democracy and reminded viewers of his anti memorandum past with the Independent Greeks.
Hospitals Under Pressure Due to Flu Surge
Georgiadis acknowledged that public hospitals are under significant strain due to rising flu cases but assured the public that flu vaccines remain fully available.
Incidents of Tension in Hospitals
He also referred to recent incidents of tension in hospitals noting that they mostly originate from Roma groups and that the matter is of concern to hospital administrations.
