Acquisition Agreement Concludes Months of Negotiations
A private agreement has been signed by Diamantis Masoutis SA to purchase 100 percent of ANEDIK Kritikos SA, formally closing a lengthy period of discussions and speculation that persisted through 2025.
The December period had already signaled an imminent conclusion between the parties, with the deal now heading to the Hellenic Competition Commission for mandatory approval.
Joint Statement Highlights Commitment to Stability
A shared announcement from both companies expresses satisfaction with the progress of the process while emphasizing their mutual dedication to operational continuity, employee rights and consistent customer service nationwide.
Masoutis states that the acquisition aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen its market presence, support domestic production and reinforce its partner network while showing respect for the employees and stakeholders of ANEDIK Kritikos SA.
Long Courtship Evolves Into a Strategic Move
Early 2025 saw negotiations intensify between Masoutis and ANEDIK Kritikos, with the market framing the talks as a flirt destined to become a marriage.
Several months of discussions unfolded as Giannis Masoutis and Angelos Kritikos worked to finalize contractual terms and agree on the valuation of the deal.
The intervening period also saw Masoutis invest heavily in its Grand Masoutis locations in Glyfada and Tris Gefyres while expanding a property portfolio that grew to more than 100 sites and various real estate projects across Athens.
Sector Impact and Market Positioning
Forecasts for 2025 indicate that the completion of the Kritikos acquisition places Masoutis in 3rd position within the supermarket sector, moving up from 5th after many years.
Combined revenue for the enlarged group is projected to approach €2.2 billion when including sales from SYNKA and Kritikos.
The transaction significantly enhances the companys footprint in Attica, where its current presence consists of 56 small former Promitheftiki stores and a single Grand Masoutis in Glyfada.
The merged network will reach approximately 1200 stores, establishing one of the largest retail structures in the country.
