Volunteers End Their Four Day Effort

The search for 33 year old doctor Alexis Tsikopoulos in Crete has reached a difficult point as volunteers from the Friends of Hunters Group of Thermaikos Coast concluded their four day mission without success. Their departure for Thessaloniki took place on Sunday at 3 in the afternoon.

Authorities and volunteers relaunched the operation on Wednesday after teams arrived in Chania. The missing doctor, who worked at Venizeleio Hospital in Heraklion, has been unaccounted for since 7 December.

Local Forces Mobilize in Multiple Regions

With the help of the Chania police department, the Fire Service and numerous volunteers from across Crete, teams reexamined areas in Chania and Rethymno from the beginning. The mother of Alexis Tsikopoulos also took part in the search.

Extensive Areas Checked Under Coordinated Leadership

Under the direction of OFKATH president Christos Ramos, teams examined enclosed spaces, monasteries, livestock facilities and forested zones in hopes of locating clues about the missing 33 year old doctor. Unfortunately none were found.

Decision Made to Pause Volunteer Search

A meeting held on Saturday evening resulted in a joint decision between police, the family and volunteers to temporarily pause the organized volunteer search, stating that the operation would effectively "freeze".
