Introduction to the Visit in Peristeri
During a Saturday morning visit to Peristeri, SYRIZA president Sokratis Famellos criticized the government and emphasized the importance of progressive cooperation. He stated that the purpose of the visit was to listen to workers, shop owners and local authorities to understand the real needs of society.
Concerns About Daily Survival
Famellos noted that for many citizens the top priority is simply making it through the month. He urged the prime minister to stop taking what he described as a defensive and insincere stance and called for the restoration of the thirteenth and fourteenth salary, the strengthening of collective agreements and the reinstatement of the thirteenth pension. He remarked that there is a significant downturn in the market and people are struggling to smile.
Criticism on Local Governance Policies
Addressing issues related to Local Governance, Famellos argued that the government must support local communities. He warned that an upcoming decision to shut down School Committees in major municipalities would leave schools without essential supplies, which in his view would harm both Education and Democracy.
Call for a More Democratic and Progressive Society
The SYRIZA leader spoke about the need for a more democratic and progressive society. He accused the prime minister of safeguarding the excess profits of the Public Power Corporation, banks and what he described as privileged groups. He also urged the ruling party to end its close relationships with certain interest groups and instead listen to citizens, entrepreneurs and local authorities.
Appeal for Cooperation Among Progressive Forces
Responding to a question about elections and cooperation among progressive parties, Famellos stated that the entire society is saying find a way so they leave soonest we cannot take it anymore. He emphasized that his party prioritizes the interests of society over party interests.
Final Message on Unity
In his closing remarks, Famellos stressed that political egos must end and that a collective progressive we is needed. He added that the essence of the Left is the collective spirit that represents society and the people.
