Georgiadis Rejects Claim of Voluntary Resignation
Adonis Georgiadis argued that Maria Karystianou did not step down by choice from the presidency of the Tempi Victims Association. He said that the board made the decision to remove her, with 6 out of 7 members voting in favor of her departure. The minister added that Karystianou criticized politicians for acting out of self interest while refraining from submitting her own resignation.
Minister Points to Inconsistencies
Georgiadis referred to her recent statements about alleged financial issues within the association. He questioned her claim that she concealed these concerns to avoid exposing other board members. The minister asked why such matters would not fall under the responsibility of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue if they were legitimate. He recalled that she had previously presented herself publicly as a grieving mother while describing a different version of events.
Previous Allegations Revisited
He reminded the public that Karystianou had stated earlier that unnamed individuals offered her money to avoid political involvement. He noted that he had already asked her to identify those people. The minister emphasized that her shifting explanations raise serious doubts about her credibility.
Dispute With Karahalios
Georgiadis also addressed the dispute between Karystianou and Nikos Karahalios over the formation of a political party. He said she is lying about Karahalios regarding the matter. The minister insisted that her allegations lack factual grounding.
Call for Transparency
He publicly urged her to clarify what she meant when she claimed she did not want to expose other board members. He pointed to her own written statement in which she said the same board members who pushed for her removal refused to agree to certain actions. He highlighted the contradiction between accusing the tax authority of mishandling an audit and claiming she avoided revealing the names of those responsible within the association.
Minister Demands Answers
He concluded by reiterating his request for her to explain precisely what is happening inside the association. He insisted that transparency requires naming those she claims to be protecting.
