Investigator Assigned to Examine Controversial Footage
Former Supreme Court Judge and current President of the Independent Authority for Claims and Complaints Andreas Paschalides has been appointed as an independent criminal investigator to review an explosive leaked video involving alleged bribes in Cyprus.
The appointment was made by the Attorney General to ensure a detailed examination of the footage that surfaced online on platform X on 08 01 2026.
Video Triggered Significant Political Reactions
Released earlier this month, the recording shows former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, Presidential Office Director Charalambos Charalambous and Cyfield Group head Giorgos Chrysochou in a discussion raising questions about funding for the campaign of Nikos Christodoulides.
The footage quickly generated widespread concern and prompted strong political discussions across the country.
Scope of the Inquiry Clearly Defined
According to the mandate issued for Paschalides, the investigation will explore the content of the video, its authenticity, its origin, the circumstances under which it was created and published, and any motives behind its production.
The terms also allow the investigator to examine any additional issues that may arise during the inquiry.
Investigation Must Conclude Promptly
The Legal Service announced that the entire process must be completed as soon as possible and absolutely within a period of 3 months.
The official statement emphasized the legal basis of the appointment and confirmed that the independent investigator will collaborate with police authorities to determine whether any criminal offenses have been committed in connection with the video.
