Arrests Made in Paiania Over Extortion Attempt and Theft
Authorities in Paiania detained 2 men aged 53 and 39, accused of repeated attempted extortion as accomplices, theft, causing dangerous bodily harm and violating firearms legislation.
Demand for Payment at Koropi Residence
According to police reports, on 14 January the suspects approached a home in Koropi and demanded that the owners pay them the amount of 20000 euros due to personal disputes. They then fled the scene. A few days earlier they had returned to the same residence and fired shots into the air with a shotgun, lightly injuring a 46 year old woman.
Identification and Arrest
Following an investigation by the Crimes Division of Koropi, the 2 perpetrators were identified and arrested during a coordinated police operation on Thursday morning 15 January.
Connection to Company Theft
Authorities also confirmed that the same individuals were responsible for a theft at a company in Koropi where they stole cables and electronic devices.
Confiscated Ammunition
Police found and confiscated 41 shotgun cartridges in the possession of the 53 year old suspect.
Judicial Proceedings
The arrested men were brought before the competent prosecutor.
