Nineteen people were injured after a Paris apartment floor collapsed during a late night party prompting a major emergency response.

Collapse During Paris Party

A large party in the eleventh district of Paris turned disastrous when the floor of a fifth floor apartment suddenly collapsed injuring 19 people including one in critical condition in the early hours of 18 1.

Emergency Alert and Initial Response

Fire services were alerted at 00 20 after part of the apartment floor detached and fell. Around 50 people were inside celebrating when the incident occurred leaving many with light to moderate injuries.

Rescue of Trapped Individual

Upon arrival responders found one person buried under debris unconscious. Firefighters were able to revive the victim before rushing them to the hospital.

Large Scale Mobilization

A total of 125 firefighters and about 40 vehicles were deployed. Early efforts focused on locating anyone trapped and safely guiding injured individuals to ambulances.

Evacuations for Safety

Because of the risk of additional structural detachment the affected building on Amelot Street and two neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

Mayor Visits Scene

The mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo visited the site expressing support for the injured and their families and thanking {warmly the firefighters the rescue teams and the civil protection for the overnight mobilization}.

Investigation Underway

The Prosecutors Office launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Police reported that the fourth floor was reinforced and the entire structure inspected indicating no further major damage beyond the collapsed section.
