Shock in Istanbul After Fatal Stabbing of 17 Year Old
The community of an Istanbul neighborhood has been left in disbelief after the brutal killing of a 17 year old outside a local cafe, an attack carried out by a 15 year old who claimed the two had never met before.
Incident Captured on Security Footage
Security cameras recorded the horrifying moments that unfolded just seconds after a confrontation erupted between two groups of teenagers. The footage shows 17 year old Atlas Caglayan being struck once with a knife, causing him to stumble before collapsing to the ground.
A Killing Triggered by a Trivial Exchange
According to the 15 year old suspect, everything started when the victim allegedly asked him why he was staring at him and then moved toward him. The teen told police that on the night of January 14 he pulled out the knife he had with him and stabbed the victim once in the stomach. He insisted that the 17 year old was completely unknown to him.
Friends Urged the Attacker to Discard the Weapon
After the stabbing, friends of the young suspect told him to hand over the weapon. The teen threw the knife on the ground, where it was later recovered by police. The attacker repeated that he had never seen the victim before the incident that night.
Desperate Race to Save the Victim
Atlas was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, but despite doctors efforts, he could not be saved. His mother, devastated by the loss, told Turkish media that she learned the news from Atlas twin brother, who called her saying, mom, my brother... They stabbed him and he is dying, hurry. She demanded justice, saying these are not ordinary 15 year olds, these are 15 year old criminals. She added that her son survived only for half an hour.
