Police Intensifies Helmet Safety Campaign
The Hellenic Police continued its nationwide campaign Zero tolerance for not wearing a helmet, aiming to ensure that all motorcycle riders, passengers and users of light personal electric vehicles fully comply with safety regulations.
Coordinated Traffic Enforcement Operations
According to the Traffic Operational Directive, officers from Traffic Departments, Police Stations and special traffic units carried out extensive checks on motorcycles and rental businesses, with particular focus on professional couriers and their employers.
Inspection Results for 12 01 2026 to 18 01 2026
During this period, officers conducted 15,261 inspections that resulted in 972 violations by riders including 20 courier workers and 125 violations by passengers.

New Road Code Brings Stricter Penalties
Under the new Road Traffic Code N 5209 2025 the government sends a firm message of zero tolerance toward the non use of helmets by introducing tougher penalties.
Penalty Details
350 euros fine and 30 day license suspension for motorcycle riders. The same applies to riders who fail to ensure passenger safety.

30 euros fine for users of personal electric vehicles.

Authorities remind the public that penalties increase significantly in cases of repeated violations.
