A new decision defines the scope of tax audits in 2026 placing emphasis on filings from the last 3 years.

AADE is preparing an extensive audit strategy for 2026 as thousands of cases involving income tax returns VAT and property transactions come under review.

Decision A.1190/2025 sets the total number of audits and investigations that will take place throughout the year.

Emphasis shifts toward income tax VAT and property transfer declarations filed within the last 3 years.

Breakdown Of Planned Tax Audits

The General Directorate of Tax Operations plans to perform 26,000 full and partial tax audits.

  • At least 80 percent of these audits will concern cases from the last 5 years.

  • At least 75 percent will focus primarily on the most recent 3 year period.

Various tax centers and DOY offices will carry out 25,400 targeted on site partial audits.

  • These inspections aim to confirm the correct issuance of receipts and their submission to the Taxis system.

Another 2,500 audits will examine compliance with property transfer tax inheritance donations and parental grant obligations.

YEDDE Operations Strengthen Oversight

YEDDE services are tasked with conducting a minimum of 18,000 targeted on site partial audits.

  • They will also undertake at least 900 investigations into suspected tax evasion.

AADE’s broader operational plan integrates tax and upcoming customs audits to reduce tax evasion and close VAT revenue gaps moving closer to EU average levels.
