Agro Verify launches to track produce from field to shelf
Agro Verify, a new application created by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, introduces real time monitoring of fruit and vegetable prices from the farm to the supermarket. Government officials consider the platform a central tool in targeted inspections designed to curb the widespread issue of mislabeling imported products as Greek.
Authorities note that imported produce is frequently presented as domestic because it lacks a digital identity. A National System of Agricultural Traceability and Authenticity will now assign each batch a unique digital code that records Variety, Country and Geographical Zone. Imported shipments also receive a mandatory Import barcode that cannot be converted into a Greek identifier.
How the app works
Scan and Verify: Consumers scan the QR code on their receipt and instantly access information about the producer and harvest date.
Shelf Check: Users can confirm whether store labels align with the official digital data.
Instant Report: Shoppers notify EFET of any violations with one tap.
Real time digital oversight
Automatic Production Control uses AI to assess typical yield per acre and block fraudulent declarations. Satellite Verification relies on Greek micro satellites to validate crops from space. PDO and PGI Protection confirms that products such as Feta PDO correspond to actual milk purchases. Crisis Management ensures fair and immediate distribution of ELGA compensations based on verified digital harvest data.
