A Death Contract Under Investigation
Authorities believe the killing was a contract execution, with the case now being handled by the Piraeus Security Department. Both the victim and the attacker had extensive criminal histories.
The Victim’s Violent Past
The 49 year old had been linked to at least 2 murders in Albania, which led to the issuance of international arrest warrants. The first killing took place in his hometown of Tepeleni in 2005, and the second in 2016. He was part of a powerful criminal group in southern Albania involved in drug trafficking.
The Attacker’s Criminal Background
The 28 year old Greek inmate had already committed one murder a few months earlier in Agios Panteleimonas, where he shot an Albanian man known for robberies and break ins. The second murder was the attack inside Korydallos on 19 1.
A Power Struggle Over Drug Markets
According to early police information, the killing is suspected to be a contract hit ordered by another Albanian inmate serving time for homicides. Investigators are focusing on drug trafficking operations in Athens and who controls the local markets. The victim had recently taken leave from prison and returned shortly after. This period may hold clues to the motive behind the murder.
