EU Commits 307 Million Euros to Artificial Intelligence
The European Union is allocating more than 307 million euros to artificial intelligence and key digital technologies through two new Horizon Europe funding calls. These initiatives fall under the Digital Industry and Space cluster and aim to strengthen Europes digital and industrial competitiveness.
First Funding Call Focused on Trusted AI and Data Innovation
The first call amounts to 221.8 million euros and targets the development of trustworthy artificial intelligence services, innovative data driven solutions, and the reinforcement of the EUs strategic autonomy. Funding spans actions related to the Apply AI strategy, robotics, quantum technologies, photonics, and virtual environments.
Open Internet Stack Initiative Receives Major Support
A notable share of over 40 million euros is dedicated to the Open Internet Stack Initiative. Its purpose is to support both end user applications and infrastructure technologies, advancing Europes digital commons and strengthening the Unions technological sovereignty.
Second Funding Call Targets Emerging Technologies and Strategic Autonomy
The second call provides 85.5 million euros to support open strategic autonomy in digital and emerging technologies as well as raw materials. Supported activities include next generation technologies for artificial intelligence agents, robotic applications for industry and services, and the development of new materials with advanced sensing capabilities.
EU Strategy Frames the Calls Under Competitiveness Compass
According to the European Commission the two funding calls fall under the Competitiveness Compass strategy and aim to secure Europes leadership in critical technologies through sustainable and human centric innovation.
