Free Entry Announced for Archaeological Sites This Sunday
Public museums, monuments and archaeological sites across Greece including the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora and the National Archaeological Museum will offer free entry this Sunday 18 January. These sites operate under the Ministry of Culture and follow the regulations that grant visitors free access on specific dates throughout the year.
Regular Free Admission Sundays During Winter Months
According to national policy free entry applies on the first and third Sunday of every month from 1 November to 31 March. On these days visitors may enter museums and archaeological areas overseen by the Ministry of Culture without paying an admission fee.
Annual Free Admission Dates Defined by Ministerial Decision
The Joint Ministerial Decision 117624 2024 outlines several national and international observances during which public archaeological spaces offer free access. These include:
6 March in memory of Melina Merkouri
18 April for International Monuments Day
18 May for International Museums Day
The last weekend of September for European Heritage Days
28 October for the national holiday
The first and third Sunday from 1 November to 31 March each year
Special Status of the Acropolis Museum
The Acropolis Museum is not included in the rule granting free entry on the first and third Sunday of each winter month. Instead the museum offers free admission on specific dates which are divided into full day access and partial day access.
