Kyriakos Velopoulos is calling on the government to identify the 18 farmer roadblocks referenced in a recent announcement that framed them as supporters of dialogue. Another concern he raised focuses on the lack of information about who these groups are and when they allegedly reached their decision. Additional questions emerged as he asked why these roadblocks chose to distance themselves from the Panhellenic Coordinating Committee of Roadblocks.
His statement stresses that such a move weakens the unified effort of farmers, livestock breeders, beekeepers and fishers at a crucial moment. Further remarks from Velopoulos suggest that these groups are either naive or acting as disruptors within the movement. A sharper accusation followed as he warned that either possibility poses risks to the collective front.
He also hinted that these roadblocks may be politically aligned with the ruling New Democracy party. Another point he made is that this alleged connection could explain the government’s hesitation to disclose their identities. Such reluctance, he argued, allows the authorities to exploit the division to undermine the demands of the primary sector.
