A new political party was formally announced by Maria Karystianou, who confirmed it will take part in the next national elections. Each detail of the initiative was outlined during her interview on Kontra, where she also acknowledged the possible involvement of SYRIZA MEP Nikolas Farantouris.
Another point she stressed was that leadership of the new party remains undecided, emphasizing that supporters will ultimately determine who takes the helm. Further explaining the philosophy behind the movement, she highlighted that it grew spontaneously and seeks nothing less than the purification of the country.
Additionally, Karystianou noted that the public backing behind the effort will shape its leadership and identity, adding that announcements regarding the party name will come at a later stage. Moreover, she expressed strong appreciation for Farantouris, describing him as knowledgeable and supportive, particularly regarding efforts linked to Article 86.
Elsewhere in the interview, she reflected on what she described as a year of major awakenings in 2025, saying that the social momentum has brought together Greeks both domestically and abroad. Many citizens, she added, are eager to contribute to the political initiative and its rapid organizational progress.
Responding to objections raised by members of the victims relatives association, Karystianou stated that she respects their views even when disagreements arise. Her position within the association, she clarified, concludes in March and no request for her resignation has been made.
When asked about potential cooperation with New Democracy, she delivered an unequivocal rejection, also ruling out any form of post election collaboration. She reinforced this firm stance by stressing that the party intends to maintain clear political independence.
Turning her criticism toward Alexis Tsipras, Karystianou accused him of signing what she considers the worst memorandum and burdening the state for 100 years. The former prime minister, she argued, rose to power promising sweeping change but ultimately misled the public and brought disappointment.
