A statement from Hellenic Train clarified the circumstances surrounding a serious incident on Tuesday morning near Ano Liosia, where a 50 year old pedestrian was struck by a Proastiakos service. The individual had attempted to cross the tracks at a closed and fenced section of the rail network when the collision occurred.
The company reported that train 1301 operating the Kiato Piraeus route was involved in the incident close to the Liosia station. According to initial information, the pedestrian entered the restricted area moments before the train arrived.
Emergency responders, including police and medical services, were deployed to the scene while the train remained immobilized in a neutral non electrified zone. Approximately 180 passengers were assisted by Hellenic Train staff who remained onboard to provide updates and support.
Buses were arranged to ensure passengers could continue their journeys despite the disruption. Significant delays were expected across the Athens Proastiakos network as operations adjusted to the incident.
Hellenic Train stated that it is cooperating fully with authorities and will issue further updates as the investigation progresses.
