A 45 year old man in Zakynthos was arrested for allegedly torching a private ambulance and possessing cannabis.

A 45 year old man was arrested in Zakynthos after a coordinated police operation uncovered his alleged role in a destructive arson incident. Investigators detailed a series of charges against him, including arson, multiple counts of property damage, theft and violations of drug legislation.

Authorities reported that during the early hours of 09 01, he allegedly set fire to a privately operated ambulance parked on Artemidos Street using flammable liquid. Flames from the attack spread quickly, damaging the ambulance and reaching 2 additional vehicles positioned nearby.

Police noted that he reportedly traveled to the scene on a motorcycle that had been declared stolen in Attica since 16 10 2025. Evidence gathered during the inquiry confirmed the vehicle matched the description of the missing motorcycle.

Officers apprehended him in the Agrilia area of Zakynthos, where they also seized several items believed to be connected to the incident. Among them were the stolen motorcycle, a plastic container with traces of fuel, a small quantity of raw cannabis and a mobile phone.

A subsequent search of his home, conducted in the presence of a judicial officer, revealed additional materials suggesting involvement in illegal drug activity. Inside, officers discovered 155 grams of dried cannabis, hydroponic cultivation equipment including 2 heat lamps and 1 air filter, cannabis seeds, 10 plastic distribution bags and a full face hood.

Prosecutors received the suspect shortly after his arrest, as the Zakynthos Misdemeanors Prosecutor undertook the next steps of the legal process. Fire crews who supported the operation confirmed they assisted in extinguishing the blaze that destroyed the ambulance.

Uncertainty remains over whether the 45 year old has had previous encounters with law enforcement, as no official information on his past record has yet been disclosed.
