Many schools across Greece remained closed on Monday 12 01 2025 as severe cold and heavy snowfall created challenging conditions. A new surge of polar weather affected several regions, particularly in northern parts of the country. Snow covered towns and villages throughout the area, prompting authorities to suspend classes for safety reasons.
In Florina, primary and secondary schools stayed shut along with KDAP and KDAP MEA centers, while kindergartens continued to operate normally. Amyntaio and Prespes also kept their schools closed, including the KDAP Prespes facility, though infant care centers stayed open. Amphipolis, Thasos, Paggaio and Dirfies Messapia joined the list of municipalities halting classes due to the harsh conditions.
Schools in Domokos suspended operations for gymnasiums and lyceums, while closures also affected Visaltia in Mavrothalassa, Nea Zichni, Andros, Nevrokopi and Sintiki in Achladochori. Several settlements in Soufli faced the same disruptions. Langadas saw closures specifically in Sohos, Vertiskos and Lachanas as weather conditions continued to deteriorate.
Other regions opted for delayed openings instead of full closures. Kastoria, Deskati, Polygyros, Nestorio, Karpenisi, Grevena, Servia and Velvento scheduled lessons to begin at 9:00. Distomo Arachova Antikyra set an even later start time at 10:00. Most kindergartens and infant care centers across these areas continued to function without interruption.
