An officer in Kilkis was injured after a confrontation with a driver who attempted to avoid a parking fine.

A routine call about illegal parking in Goumenissa escalated into a serious incident that left a 49 year old police officer injured in Kilkis.

The situation unfolded when officers arrived at the scene on Sunday afternoon to issue a ticket for the violation. The 49 year old officer began processing the fine as required.

The driver then appeared and reacted aggressively toward the officers before entering his vehicle in an attempt to flee. His sudden move resulted in the officer being struck and injured in the leg.

The wounded officer was transported first to the Goumenissa Health Center and later to the General Hospital of Kilkis for further care.

The 58 year old driver was eventually arrested following the incident. The Goumenissa Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the case.
