Urgent Inquiry Launched Over Living Conditions of 16 Year Old Suspect
A senior prosecutor in Thessaloniki has ordered an urgent preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding a 16 year old suspect linked to the fatal beating of a 17 year old in Serres. The inquiry focuses on prior reports submitted by the child protection group The Smile of the Child regarding the minors living conditions.
Authorities have been instructed to determine whether agencies that received those reports failed to act appropriately. The probe aims to establish whether the offense of breach of duty can be substantiated.
The suspect was charged with intentional homicide in a calm mental state and is currently being held in a juvenile detention facility following his appearance before an investigative magistrate.
Family Raises Questions About Possible Additional Involvement
The family of the 17 year old victim believes more individuals may have been involved in the assault and claims evidence suggests a second attack occurred in the basement where the teenager was found. Fresh information has intensified concerns about the sequence of events.
The victims sister publicly appealed for anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward, expressing deep frustration over what she described as a lack of protection for her brother.

He was only 17 and he was left without help. The state should protect every person and it did not protect him.
Expert Notes Possibility of an Object in the Assault
A police expert suggested that the injuries sustained may indicate the use of an object such as brass knuckles, noting that the wounds appeared too severe to have been inflicted solely with bare hands. No such object was found at the scene.
The expert added that the victim had been seen earlier with three friends before entering the area alone, with surveillance footage showing no one else entering apart from delivery workers.
