Greek Holiday Trip Turns Into Tragedy In Panama
A holiday journey to Panama ended in devastation for a couple from Kefalonia who had traveled with a group of 26 Greeks for a seasonal vacation. A notary who was part of the group developed a severe cough during the trip and was examined by a doctor who provided her with syrup. The following day brought a decline in her condition, prompting her to remain at the hotel while the group continued their plans.
Reports from fellow travelers indicate that her husband returned to find her with blisters, raising immediate alarm. Medical assistance was sought, and she was transported to a hospital in Panama, where she died on January 2. Group members described her as appearing well before the sudden onset of symptoms, noting that several doctors traveling with them did not identify anything particularly concerning at first.
The case took another dramatic turn as the husband, a lawyer, experienced deteriorating health during his return journey to Greece. He had opted to take a separate flight with a layover in Paris instead of accompanying his wifes body home. He collapsed during the stopover and is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
Travelers who were with the couple expressed shock at the rapid progression of events. One member of the group said she had seemed fine initially, adding that her symptoms escalated quickly from headaches to intense coughing. Another traveler noted that despite multiple medical professionals being in the group, none had detected signs of a serious issue before her collapse.
The husbands choice to follow a different route home remains a point of discussion among the group, who learned later that he fell ill with fever and collapsed shortly after landing in Paris. His condition remains critical as medical teams work to stabilize him.
