Arrests Made at Athens Airport Over Cannabis Smuggling Attempt
Greek authorities detained 3 women at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport after uncovering an alleged attempt to transport a significant quantity of cannabis to Italy. Each suspect was identified as a foreign national aged 29, 33 and 37 who police believe are linked to an international criminal network involved in drug trafficking.
Investigators located the women through targeted checks supported by intelligence analysis, data cross referencing and profiling procedures carried out to prevent narcotics from being moved out of the country. Officers determined that the suspects intended to board a flight from Greece to a destination in Italy.
Searches of their luggage revealed 72 kilograms and 700 grams of hydroponic cannabis sealed in nylon packaging and concealed within their bags. Authorities also seized 3 mobile phones believed to be connected to their activities.
The detained suspects have since been transferred to the competent prosecutorial authority for further legal proceedings.
