Kidnapping Over Debt Leads to Arrest in Kamatero
Police in Kamatero arrested a 21 year old Romanian man accused of kidnapping and extorting a 40 year old over an outstanding 16,000 euro debt. Officers identified a 21 year old Greek man and a 47 year old Romanian man as alleged accomplices, and both remain at large. Authorities report that the case unfolded rapidly after the victim managed to send his location during captivity.
Meeting in Anavyssos Turns Violent
The 40 year old victim arranged to meet the suspect at a café in Anavyssos on 30 December 2025 to discuss their financial dispute. Moments after the meeting began, the suspect arrived with 2 associates who reacted aggressively when the victim explained he could not immediately repay the debt. The group allegedly punched the victim, threatened him and forced him into a rental vehicle.
The assailants transported the victim to the 21 year old’s residence in Kamatero, where he was locked inside a room against his will. The situation took a critical turn when the suspect inadvertently left his mobile phone with the victim, enabling him to contact his father and share his precise location using a digital application.
Police Operation and Arrest
Officers were notified late that evening and launched an operation to locate the property. Police monitored the building discreetly after confirming the address, waiting for the right moment to intervene. The suspect was arrested on the morning of 31 December as he exited the apartment block, allowing officers to immediately begin a search of the residence in the presence of a judicial official.
The victim was found with visible injuries, including facial bruising and trauma to both eyes, and was taken for forensic examination. Medical assessment confirmed multiple contusions resulting from the assault.
Evidence Seized and Case File
Investigators compiled a case file that includes charges of kidnapping, extortion, unlawful detention, causing bodily harm in concert and weapons violations. Police documented the involvement of the 2 additional suspects who remain wanted for their role in the attack.

Officers also located the victim’s stolen vehicle and returned it to him following the operation. Authorities continue searching for the remaining suspects as the investigation progresses.
