Microsoft Sets 2026 Support Deadline for Windows 11 24H2 and Office 2021
Microsoft has revised its official software lifecycle schedule revealing that Windows 11 version 24H2 and Microsoft Office 2021 will both reach the end of support on 13 October 2026. Millions of individuals and organizations rely on these products daily making the upcoming shift significant for anyone who has not yet updated to newer releases.
The companys latest documentation states that Windows 11 24H2 for Home and Pro editions will stop receiving security updates and bug fixes after 13 October 2026. Devices that remain on this version beyond the deadline will operate without essential protections leaving users exposed to potential vulnerabilities unless they upgrade to Windows 11 version 25H2.
Microsoft has also confirmed that support for Office 2021 will conclude on the same date. After 13 October 2026 the suite will no longer receive security patches technical assistance or reliability fixes through Microsoft Update or any official support channels.
Users and organizations depending on these versions are advised to begin planning their transition. An upgrade to Windows 11 25H2 or later will ensure continued operating system support while Office users are encouraged to move to Office 2024 or adopt Microsoft 365 which remains actively maintained.
The end of support does not prevent either product from functioning. Systems and applications will continue to operate however the absence of security updates and fixes increases exposure to emerging threats for anyone remaining on outdated software.
What Users Should Do
Windows 11 24H2 upgrade to version 25H2 or later to maintain security updates beyond October 2026.
Office 2021 transition to Office 2024 or switch to Microsoft 365 for ongoing feature and security updates.
This shift aligns with Microsofts broader lifecycle strategy which prioritizes modern software versions and focuses support resources on the most current releases.
