Climatebook findings show that 2025 ranked as the second warmest year ever recorded in Greece, based on data extending back to at least 1890. Researchers report that average temperatures exceeded the 1991 to 2020 reference period on 262 of the year s 365 days, accounting for 72 percent of all days. Analysts indicate that 2025 also stood out as one of the warmest years worldwide and across much of Europe.
Data charts released by the Climatebook team illustrate the day by day evolution of average temperatures in Greece during 2025. These visuals reveal that temperature deviations above the long term average dominated most of the year. March brought particularly striking anomalies, as multiple regions reached record seasonal highs. Summer followed with similarly intense conditions, ranking as the third warmest summer ever documented in the country while summer 2024 remains the hottest on record.
Cooler patterns briefly interrupted the trend, as unusually low temperatures appeared in early April and again in early October. Another graphic highlights the trajectory of Greece s average annual temperature from 1970 to 2025, offering a broader perspective on the country s ongoing warming. The chart confirms that 2025 closed with an annual average of 15.3°C. The value sits 0.7°C below 2024 but remains about 0.1°C above 2023.
Long term data shows a striking concentration of record warmth in recent years. Six of the seven warmest years have occurred within the past seven year period. The three hottest years ever observed have unfolded consecutively over the past three years, underscoring a rapid and persistent acceleration of warming across Greece.
