New Years Day Attack Leaves 79 Year Old Hospitalized in Thessaloniki

Police in Thessaloniki detained a heavily intoxicated 31 year old man on New Years Day after he allegedly assaulted an elderly passerby in the city center. Authorities reported that the man, who appeared visibly drunk, struck a 79 year old stranger with his hands during the afternoon incident. The blow caused the older man to collapse onto the pavement, resulting in a head injury. Emergency responders from EKAB transported the injured victim to a local hospital, where he continues to receive medical care. The arrested individual is expected to be brought before the prosecutor for further legal proceedings.
