A dramatic pursuit ends with police killing a former deputy who murdered his young son.

Deadly Confrontation After Child Killing

Authorities in Sacramento released footage showing officers fatally shooting a former deputy after he murdered his 11 year old son. The video captures the sequence of events on 2 December when the sheriffs office received an emergency call reporting a child who had been stabbed multiple times inside his home.

Suspect Identified as Former Deputy

Responding officers quickly discovered that the suspect was a former colleague a former California sheriffs deputy who had fled the residence before authorities arrived.

Chase on the Highway

Police located the vehicle of Marvin Morales on a major roadway and the footage reveals the intense pursuit that followed. The chase ended when the 40 year old suspect lost control and came to a stop near a tree.

Fatal Exchange of Fire

Officers ordered Morales to remain still and exit the vehicle peacefully. Instead he attempted to grab his firearm and open fire. In response officers unleashed a volley of shots killing him beside the drivers door.

Background of the Former Deputy

Morales served from 2017 until February 2024 when he was dismissed for taking an excessive dose of fentanyl obtained from a man he had detained. He later claimed he had used the drug in an attempt to end his life a claim that authorities rejected.
