Strong Winds Disrupt Transport Across Attica
Gale force winds sweeping through Attica since Wednesday night have forced authorities into heightened alert as transportation networks experience widespread disruption. Maritime services faced the most immediate impact, with ships remaining docked in Rafina and Lavrio due to persistent rough conditions at sea.
Two morning ferry routes managed to operate from Piraeus according to ERT, offering limited relief to travelers amid otherwise difficult circumstances. Reports also indicated disturbances affecting some flights, adding another layer of complications for commuters.
Wind gusts climbing to 6 on the Beaufort scale have triggered problems across various districts in Attica. The Fire Service received several calls about fallen trees, particularly in Plateia Attikis and Nea Makri, though no injuries were reported in connection with these incidents.
Authorities urged citizens to contact port authorities for updates on ferry services and to remain cautious when traveling as adverse conditions are expected to persist into Thursday morning.
