he owners of a nightclub in Patras are set to appear before the local prosecutor on Monday as authorities investigate the deadly beating of a 31 year old father early Sunday morning.
Police are actively searching for 7 individuals believed to have taken part in the violent confrontation that led to the victim’s death.
Investigators have learned that surveillance footage from inside the club has been destroyed, complicating efforts to reconstruct the events.
Two owners of the establishment, aged 40 and 56, have been arrested and are facing charges that include false testimony, obstruction of justice and harboring offenders.
The pair allegedly told officers that the club’s cameras had been handed over to a security company, a claim challenged by the company’s owner who stated that the recording system had been returned to them a month earlier.
Authorities have identified 3 of the 7 suspects, including a 35 year old man, his 38 year old brother and a 29 year old man.
Witness statements from the victim’s friends indicate that 4 additional unidentified individuals were also involved in the altercation.
All 7 suspects face charges of homicide and causing dangerous bodily harm as co perpetrators.
Tension in Patras remains high as relatives and friends of the victim vandalized a café owned by the nightclub operator on Sunday afternoon in apparent retaliation.
A heavy police presence continues outside the nightclub to prevent any further escalation.
