Shoppers at the Mediterranean Cosmos mall in Thessaloniki witnessed alarming scenes on Saturday 10 January 2026 when part of a dining establishments ceiling suddenly collapsed.
A section of the structure gave way in the busy Pylaia area complex and struck a 45 year old woman who had been inside the restaurant at the time.
An unexplained detachment of ceiling material resulted in the debris falling directly onto her head, leaving her injured amid a crowded space.
Emergency responders from EKAB transported her to Papageorgiou Hospital, where doctors confirmed that her condition was stable and her life was not in danger.
Information provided by POEDHN president Michalis Giannakos indicated that the woman appears to have suffered a nasal fracture, though she is recovering without complications.
