A 15 year old student suffered serious head injuries at a central Athens intersection when a pharmacy cross shaped sign detached from its pole during intense winds.
Strong gusts swept through the area and eyewitnesses said the force was so extreme that the sign was uprooted within seconds before crashing onto the pavement.
One witness described watching the teenager collapse and bleed after being struck by the falling structure.
Emergency responders from EKAB arrived quickly and transported the injured girl to KAT Hospital for immediate medical care.
Local residents later reported that the pole supporting the sign appeared old and poorly maintained.
