A 27 year old hunter died on Saturday after plunging into a ravine in the Kastrí area of the Viannos municipality in Heraklion. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall.
Relatives had accompanied the young man on the hunting trip when he slipped into the steep ravine, which measured an estimated 30 to 40 meters in depth. Emergency services were alerted immediately, prompting a rapid response.
A total of 15 firefighters and EMAK rescue specialists reached the remote site using 4 vehicles. Additional support came from an EKAV ambulance crew, police units and several volunteers who joined the operation.
The victim was eventually retrieved and transported by EKAV ambulance to the Viannos Health Center, where medical staff confirmed his death. The information was reported by AMNA.
