A 47 year old man in Samos has been arrested for alleged involvement in a major fraud and money laundering network linked to losses over 440000 euros.

A 47 year old man has been arrested in Samos under a warrant accusing him of involvement in a major fraud and money laundering network. Police link him to at least 27 illegal transactions that generated losses exceeding 440000 euros.

The arrest was carried out 4 days ago following months of investigation by the Samos Police Directorate under the supervision of the local Prosecutor Office. Authorities say the suspect targeted citizens across Greece in locations including Samos Naxos Nafplio Patras Larissa Kalymnos Arta and Attica between 2009 and September 2025.

Investigators report that the man allegedly presented himself as a police officer Interpol staff member Finance Ministry employee parliamentary worker or representative of an independent authority. His impersonations reportedly helped him convince victims that he held powerful connections allowing him to extract substantial sums of money through various fabricated pretexts.

Investigators also link him to at least 3 extortion attempts aimed at preventing victims from reporting him or attempting to reclaim their funds. Searches of residences associated with him on Samos resulted in the seizure of documents related to electronic payments a service receipt betting slips handwritten notes and 2 mobile phones.

The case file includes accusations of fraud money laundering impersonation false testimony theft extortion and violations of data protection law. Police have additionally identified 7 individuals believed to have acted as accomplices. The arrested suspect has been referred to the competent Prosecutor Office.
