Robbery in Omonia Leaves Kiosk Owner Seriously Hurt
A kiosk operator in Omonia was violently assaulted on Wednesday 7 January during a robbery carried out by an assailant accompanied by a pit bull. The incident unfolded at the corner of Satovriandou and Dorou streets when the perpetrator knocked on the kiosk door while pretending to be a tourist.
The kiosk owner opened the door and immediately received 2 punches that threw him to the ground. The attacker, identified as being of Afghan origin, then entered the kiosk and seized around 1,000 euros from the register.
The victim attempted to call for help while lying on the ground, prompting the assailant to urge the dog to attack him. The pit bull bit the owners hand, causing severe injuries that required his transfer to Elpis Hospital.
A search by the DIAS police team led to the arrest of the attacker shortly after the incident.
