Fresh Testimony Reshapes Investigation
Investigators reexamined crucial evidence on 14 January 2025 as two 22 year old men held in pre trial detention for the Finikounda double murder returned to the Kalamata courthouse for additional questioning.
Authorities adjusted the charges shortly before the new round of testimony when the investigating judge determined that the man originally portrayed as an accomplice was in fact the alleged shooter.
Long Interrogation for the Newly Identified Suspect
The man now accused of firing the fatal shots entered the judge’s office around 12:30 and remained inside for 7.5 hours.
During the extensive session, he reportedly revised substantial portions of his initial testimony. He claimed he had been trapped, expressed remorse for his earlier statements and insisted that his friend had no involvement in the killings.
Investigators heard him decline to answer several questions, citing fear. He also denied possessing a weapon and rejected claims that he entered the reception area where the victims were found.
Legal Representation and Evening Testimony
Lawyer Nikos Alertas, who represents the first 22 year old, confirmed his client’s position following the lengthy interrogation.
The second 22 year old, initially believed to be the shooter, appeared before the judge later in the evening to offer his account of the events.
Both men remain in pre trial detention as the investigation into the deaths of the 68 year old campsite owner and the 61 year old caretaker continues.
