A vibrant crowd gathered in the Municipality of Peristeri on Tuesday 30 December 2025 as the largest vasilopita ever made in Greece was officially cut. An enormous creation by the Athens Suburbs and Surrounding Areas Bakers Guild SΑΑΠΠ in partnership with the Municipality of Peristeri set a new milestone for the tradition.
A vast sweet loaf weighing 10 tons and stretching beyond 100 meters produced more than 80,000 pieces that were shared freely with residents, transforming the pedestrian zone into a lively celebration. A symbolic moment came when Mayor Andreas P Pachaturidis sliced the Citizens Vasilopita before thousands of attendees from across Attica.
Greetings followed from Attica Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias along with Guild President Panagiotis Sachinidis as representatives of Parliament organisations and associations looked on. Added warmth arrived through the coordination and presentation of the event by Despina Vassou.
Music curated by DJ Giannis Zapantis enriched the festive setting. Support for the creation and distribution of the giant vasilopita was offered by dozens of bakeries Neighborhood Bakeries volunteers and the NGO Ellados Artos ELART demonstrating the communitys strong commitment to unity and contribution.
Large quantities of ingredients were required for the project including 6.2 tons flour 2,200 kg sunflower oil 6,500 eggs 830 kg icing sugar 750 kg sugar 110 liters cognac and 85 kg cinnamon. The Peristeri event has now become a firmly established tradition that celebrates togetherness and civic generosity.
