A 16 year old accused of killing a 17 year old in Serres is placed in pre trial detention while denying any homicidal intent.

A 16 year old charged with intentional homicide in a calm mental state has been ordered into pre trial detention following his appearance before the Serres investigating judge. Court authorities reached this decision with the agreement of the prosecutor.

The teenager, accused of fatally beating a 17 year old on Monday night in Serres, was transferred to a juvenile detention facility after the hearing. His lengthy testimony included a denial of any intention to kill.

Information provided to reporters indicated that he repeated earlier claims made to police, asserting that the confrontation arose from an issue involving a girl. He stated that he struck the victim with 2 to 3 punches and delivered 1 knee strike during the argument.

The minor was described as remorseful, expressing sorrow for the loss of the young victim and apologizing to the family. He reportedly said that if he could go back in time, he would have behaved differently.

While he testified inside, relatives, friends, and local residents gathered outside the Serres courthouse carrying signs that called for justice and honored the memory of the 17 year old. Some of the messages demanded an end to violence and paid tribute to the victim who, as supporters said, never had the chance to live his life.

Lawyers representing the victims family urged a thorough investigation of what they described as a heinous crime, suggesting that additional perpetrators may have been involved. One of the attorneys, Alexandros Chalkiopoulos, emphasized that such acts must never be repeated anywhere in Greece and called on witnesses to come forward.
